India is an agricultural village, blessed with all the geographical regions and climates of the world, a good drainage system comprising more than three thousand dams and barrages built across the rivers to feed the agricultural lands. This bliss has become a curse by the increasing salinity in the irrigated soil and all along the banks of impounding waters such as tanks and reservoirs. About one third of the arable land is globally affected with salinity and is true to India as it is possessing 9.38 million hectares of saline land. In most of the Gangetic plains and Deccan, the monoculture of sugarcane is getting dominated to reduce the cost of labour but the crop is being affected with root parasites (Striga spp.), root grub (worm, Leucopholis), etc.

It is high time to help the farmer by scientific community at the time the farmer suicides all over the county is the order of the day. Against this back drop, it is sincerely felt to try to rectify and remedy the above-mentioned burning problems of the farmer. Here is the prime and purely research-oriented institution, Dr V.B. Hosagoudar Bio-Research Foundation, that has come to being at Bilagi in Bagalkot district of Karnataka State, as a trust on February 11, 2015. Possibly and preferably, the present and those of the future problems in agriculture will be tackled by discovering the salt-tolerant plants and by employing the microbes (e.g., mycorrhizal fungi for saline soil; biocontrol agents for root grub). Resistant varieties of sugarcane will be reached or developed to prevent the damage caused by Striga. This will certainly help the sugar industry, by the vertical growth and produce of sugarcane. Selected farmers will be trained in batches to make them self-sufficient in the pertinent knowledge. In addition, plant and microbial wealth of the region will be collected, identified and documented for future use. Every attempt will be made to get the Institution recognized by the Universities to facilitate higher studies, which have the farmer bias.

This INSTITUTION comprises a Director and intellectuals in three categories:

I- Retired Professors/Scientists and Forest Officials, who will incorporate their knowledge into the rural development and constitute the pillars of the institution. These individuals will apply schemes to Funding Agencies to get the projects, and will guide the students for their degrees/diplomas.

II- Professors, Scientists and Forest Officials, who are in service, will serve as advisors. These individuals will apply to funding agencies to get the projects and also will guide the students for the degrees/diplomas.

III-Young Scientists, who have started their research career in reputed and recognized institutions, will serve as members to activate the institution.
